SUSTAINABLE MARINE MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES

We shine the spotlight on a number of innovative and inspiring research projects – including Dusit International's shark fin conservation program – currently taking place in the Maldives, Indonesia, Australia, and the Caribbean. Setting new benchmarks in marine conservation, education and management, global brands like Banyan Tree, Orion Expeditions, Sandals Foundation, CoralWatch, Dusit International and Alila Villas Uluwatu prove that CSR can transcend the board room and galvanise entire communities. NEW GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS

Concern about climate change/global warming among online consumers around the world took a back-seat to other environmental issues such as air and water pollution, water shortages, packaging waste and use of pesticides, according to Nielsen’s 2011 Global Online Environment & Sustainability Survey of more than 25,000 Internet respondents in 51 countries.

PULP GREENWASHING: SUPPLY CHANGE IMPACTS

Global certification and benchmarking company, EarthCheck, urges businesses to question their supply chain relationships after the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) released a report about widespread greenwashing in the pulp and paper industry.

On the back of a disturbing expose by ABC's Foreign Correspondent, concerns are being raised about green washing by Indonesian pulp and paper companies who are supplying major office supply retailers across Australia. (View ABC's "Paper/Tiger" video here.)

A leading Australian newspaper recently reported that Fuji Xerox Australia had announced that it will no longer be doing business with Asia Pacific Resources International (APRIL), which owns one of the world’s largest paper mills and who, along with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), produces 80% of Indonesia's paper. Read more of EarthCheck's report here.
