Welcome to Sustainable Tourism Online

Sustainable Tourism Online (STO) is a comprehensive online information resource delivering substantial research, data and tools within three main sustainability themes – Destinations and Communities, Business Operations, and Parks & Culture. We also offer relevant information and knowledge on broader sustainability themes.

Developed by Australia’s Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC) in 2010 to support sustainable policy, planning and practice, STO provides access to tourism research and tools developed by STCRC as well as other trusted sources of information. (These are easily accessed by typing your key words in the Search box, or clicking on the three sustainability themes from the top of this page.)

You can also submit your own case study or research paper by clicking "Add new research" in the right-hand corner. This is a simple, one-step process and takes 7-10 days to be uploaded.

Look out for special features on topics ranging from sustainable marine park management, training and capacity building, and risk and crisis management, which are updated monthly.

We are proud to work with some of the world's leading sustainability experts, including EC3 GlobalBanyan Tree Global FoundationEcolabPATA, and Queensland Tourism Industry Council, and continue to seek out reputable content partners

We welcome your feedback about the portal, so please contact us with content suggestions, feature ideas, or technical issues you may experience.

A leading Australian newspaper recently reported that Fuji Xerox Australia had announced that it will no longer be doing business with Asia Pacific Resources International (APRIL), which owns one of the world’s largest paper mills and who, along with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), produces 80% of Indonesia's paper. Read more of EarthCheck's report here.
